William Findlay's father was a police sergeant in Toowoomba.  Thomas
helped Marjorie and John with the purchase of a farm at Kingaroy.  The 
property was poor, full of stone, and it drove Findlay mad.  When his 
mother-in-law (Nell) was visiting a daughter in Charters Towers for 
her son-in-law's funeral, Findlay shot his two children, his wife 
Marjorie, and also old Thomas.  He set fire to the farmhouse before 
killing himself.  Thomas was in his seventies.
