Description: Multimedia and Virtual Environments from a programmer’s perspective. Types of Media: 2D imagery, 3D graphics, Text, Video, Sound and Animation. Principles of media types. Issues in control of media: bandwidth, processing. Standards. Combining and synchronising media. Virtual environments: models, immersion, technology. Practical work in Java and the Java Media APIs (JMF, Java3D, JAI) plus VRML.
